L.E.K. Associate Application FAQ for Sydney, Australia

I've recently received several e-mails from candidates interested in the L.E.K. Sydney, Australia office and we are now accepting applications for our Graduate Recruitment Program for Associate opportunities for 2014 in this office. Below, I’ve addressed common questions from undergrad and grad students about applying for L.E.K.’s Associate program in Australia.

Q: When do applications for the Associate program in Australia close?
A: Our applications close on Tuesday 12 March 2013

Q: Where do I apply?
A: Apply online here.

Q: Who should I address my cover letter to?
A: Applications should be addressed to Natasha Mold, Recruiting & H.R. Manager, Sydney.

Q: What’s the interview process like (number of rounds, etc.)?
A: The interview process consists of two rounds. The first round consists of three interviews, normally with a Consultant, Manager and Partner. Each 30-minute interview is a mix of case, previous experience and fit questions. The case questions are used to gauge your quantitative, business logic and strategic acumen. If you are successful to the final round then you will have two 30-minute interviews with Senior Partners. These generally focus more on your experience and fit, but you could also receive a few case-related questions.

Q: Where do the interviews take place?
A: We will be holding first round interviews in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland during the week commencing the 18 March 2013. Successful final round candidates will be flown to Sydney for final round events and interviews during the week commencing 25 March 2013.

Q: Do we accept applications from applicants needing a work permit?
A: We do accept applications and will sponsor applicants that require one to work in Australia.

If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me and let me know. Good luck!

Can you clarify the answer to the "Do we accept applications from applicants needing a work permit" question for me please, specifically, do you accept applications from applicants (needing a work permit) who are currently living/working outside of Australia?
Hi Mark, Thanks for your question. You are correct, we consider sponsoring applicants who need a permit living/working outside of Australia. Best, The L.E.K. Advisor
With regards to the above query, does it mean you accept application from non-Australian citizens who have completed education in other countries? Also, are you specific with B-Schools you hire from?
Hi Namita, Yes, we accept applications from non-Australian citizens. We do not have a rigid checklist of schools but instead look for a combination of outstanding academic achievement, comfort with quantitative analysis, significant professional experience, notable extracurricular interests, etc. Thanks for your interest in L.E.K. Hello Administrator, I see the offer is for "...Graduate Recruitment Program for Associate opportunities for 2014 in this office" Can I apply for this program if I am an experienced professional with 8 years experience (I only posses a Bachelors degree)? Also, regarding international applicants (living outside of Australia), how would/where you do the first round interviews? The reason I ask is because I see it stated above that, "We will be holding first round interviews in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland"
Hi JHN, We do not limit Associate applications to new graduates so you are certainly free to apply. If you are selected for a first round interview, the L.E.K. team will work with you at that time to determine the interview process and locale. Best, The L.E.K. Advisor
How many Associates is L.E.K hoping to recruit during this 2013 recruitment program? How many Associates did L.E.K employ during the last Graduate Recruitment Program?
(1) Your application process seems to require an applicant to submit their academic transcript, can you say what type of academic grades are you looking for? (2) Suppose I only have an "average" academic record (along with a couple years of experience), should I even bother to apply? (3) Your application process requires "GPA - Weighted Average", but suppose I am from a university that does not use the "GPA" system, what should I enter, I see the "Other" option, but then I am required to enter a value in the "GPA - Other" field, what do I enter in that "GPA - Other" field? (4) In the application process form you ask the question, "Do you have any extenuating circumstances?", I am not exactly sure whats the purpose of the question, can you further clarify? Did you mean something like: "Do you have any extenuating circumstances.....that explains your relative average/poor grades?"
Hi JHN, we look for a combination of factors not just academic achievements. Other professional experience, extracurricular activities and interest in quantitative analysis are also important. If you feel you have experience relevant to the above, we would encourage you to apply. In the "GPA-Other" field, I would input the grading system that your particular University uses. The "extenuating circumstances" section can certainly be left blank but is there as a way for you to additionally explain any circumstances or experiences on your resume that you'd like to further delve into. Hope this helps!
Hi WISTHLEINTON, we do not publicize the number of Associates we are currently recruiting for but typically each year we hire 50+ Associates. Best, The L.E.K. Advisor
Hello L.E.K Advisor, I'm a penultimate student and was wondering if you were offering any internship applications for either summer or winter? I have gathered they're not advertised but is it possible to send a speculative application? Thanks in advance for your help, NS
Hi N S, unfortunately at this time our applications for the Summer Associate role in Australia have closed and we only accept applications when the positions are open. Please keep an eye on our web site though as we post all open positions here: http://www.lek.com/join-lek/how-to-apply/apply-now. Thanks for your interest in L.E.K.!
