New Hire Orientation--What's It Like?

Congratulations!  You’ve accepted your offer at L.E.K. Consulting, have received information about your start date and are getting ready to begin a new chapter in your life.  But, do you know how to do your job yet?  Most likely, you haven’t worked in consulting before and even if you have, all firms operate pretty differently.  But, fear not!  You are not alone and we have two packed weeks of orientation for you to get up to speed and learn the key skills that you will need to hit the ground running!

New Hire Orientation brings together everyone who is starting this fall (Associates, Life Science Specialists and Consultants).  Your first two weeks at L.E.K. Consulting will be full of meeting new people, learning important skills and concepts and having some fun.

You will meet the Human Resources (HR) teams who will give you all sorts of important information – how to get insurance, how to fill out your tax forms and most importantly: how to get paid! You will meet the Professional Development (PD) team who is responsible for running this training in addition to all other trainings you will receive to further your growth over the course of your career at L.E.K. Consulting. You will meet the Information and Resources Center (IRC) staff – a group that is well-versed in an immense range of resources that can help you on all of your cases. You will meet the Information Technology (IT) staff – they will give you all of your equipment, show you how to use it and they will be there if you have any issues in the future. You will meet the Legal team who will go over some important rules with you and serve as a critical resource if you ever have any questions. And finally, you will meet a large number of current L.E.K. Consulting staff. You will have the opportunity to interact with current consulting staff in a few ways. They will be helping out with orientation by teaching PD sessions and sitting on discussion panels. They will be joining you at lunches, dinners and cocktail parties during orientation. And, they will be helping your teams with your practice case.

During our two-week orientation, we train you on all of the important skills that you need to get started on your first case at L.E.K. You will learn important hard skills including primary and secondary research, analysis in Excel and slide creation in PowerPoint. You will also learn important soft skills including business communication, management and more that will help you succeed at L.E.K. and beyond.

And finally, you will have fun during orientation! You will work closely with your peers on a practice case and begin to put some of your new skills to work. We also have a number of events planned during the evenings and lunchtimes so you can meet your peers and your new colleagues.

So, welcome to L.E.K. Consulting. Enjoy orientation and make the most of it – learn as much as you can and meet as many new people as possible!
