L.E.K. Boston Corporate Volunteer Day at Playworks

L.E.K. Boston’s Community Impact Committee recently held its annual corporate volunteer day in partnership with Playworks Massachusetts. Forty volunteers spent a steamy Friday afternoon in July painting a kickball field, tag area, soccer field, track, murals, and four square courts at the JP Manning Elementary School in Boston.

The 162 students at Manning Elementary currently use a parking lot behind the school as their recess area, so we set out to transform this into a dynamic space that encourages teamwork and communication.  Plus, having a handful of new game options will make recess a whole lot more fun for the students!

Playworks is a national non-profit focused on improving the health and well-being of children through safe, inclusive, and meaningful play opportunities.  The organization, which was founded as Sports4Kids in 1996, currently reaches more than 700,000 students across 1,200 schools in the United States.  According to teachers and administrators at partner schools, Playworks facilitates decreased bullying, reduced disciplinary incidents, and improved academic participation, among other impressive results. The L.E.K. team is very grateful to the local Playworks staff for coordinating an energizing event and allowing us to share their mission for the second year in a row.

L.E.K. Boston’s corporate volunteer day with Playworks is part of a series of education-related events sponsored by the Community Impact Committee during the third quarter of 2016.  We pride ourselves on providing opportunities for employees to engage with the local community throughout the year.  In a fast-paced world, it’s incredibly rewarding to lift our heads, learn about a great cause, and try something new.

Stay tuned for more great events to come!
