The Pod: L.E.K. Goes Social in L.A.

A benefit to being employed by L.E.K. is that consultants have the opportunity to work on an average of six to 10 cases annually, growing the breadth of our knowledge base through several industry sectors. Some would think that doesn’t leave much time for social activities. However, one additional benefit to being employed by L.E.K. is that the social and communal opportunities are plentiful, if you are game to participate!

One way this is encouraged in L.E.K.’s LA office is through “Pods.” Each Pod is comprised of one managing director, one manager, one to two consultants, and approximately five associates. Everyone is randomly assigned to a Pod and Pods are shuffled about once every year. Pod Events, as they are called, occur once a quarter, and can be anything from an evening at LA’s famous Magic Castle to wine tasting, or stand-up paddle boarding in the Pacific Ocean.

However, my favorite Pod Event so far during my time at L.E.K. happens to be the most recent: three Pods combined for a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood for the ultimate VIP experience. This experience included exclusive back lot access where we walked around some of the world’s most famous television and movie sets (Back to the Future, The Dark Knight, CSI, Desperate Housewives, and Pirates of the Caribbean) and exclusive theme park benefits where we received a “front-of-the-line” pass for every theme park ride and attraction. This was an experience for the record books and Pod members certainly bonded outside of normal casework and case teams.

Though this social experience was catered to the LA office's prime location near Universal Studios, each office takes advantage of the surrounding scene to give staff the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the work environment.
